Allura Red ( also know as FD&C Red 40, Food Red 17) can be found in candy, soft drinks. It is used to give bright red color to our food, and specially attract children.
A new research from McMaster University showed that long-term ingestion disrupt our gut function which lead to higher risk of Inflammatory bowels disease or even Crohn's disease.
It appears that Allura Red affect gut serotonin. It is striking and alarming as said the author Waliul Khan.
We should study much the effect on gut health of food dyes like Allura Red as they are frequently used in our processed food.
