In a recent study, Modafinil (dexamphetamine) was compared to a placebo in a randomized double-blinded trial. The healthy participants were aged from 18 to 35 years. (Employees and students use these drugs to enhance their productivity) Results showed that the drugs did not have a significant effect on task performance, moreover the drugs had a significantly negative effect on one of the most complex tests managed by the participants. We need to rethink how "smart" these drugs are? It also demonstrates that we need to learn more about dopamine action in our brain.
